A Brief History of Memekind

Memes! Memes! Memes! You know them, you laugh with them, you share them, and trust us on this one – you’re not alone. Your parents, coworkers, and pretty much everyone you know is part of this cultural movement whether they’re aware of it or not. They’ve taken the world by storm to the point where we have memecoins! How did this happen?

Think about it. How many memes do you see everyday? How many do you share? Whom do you share them with? Are you aware that these “jokes” are actually an interesting and deep cultural phenomenon?

Let’s take a look at the history of memes: how they affect culture, how they can be used as a powerful tool to strengthen community, and how meme coins like $PUSSY are taking over the global economy.

What are memes?

Memes can be summarized as visual representations of feelings, thoughts, ideas, or just plain jokes that are shared online. However, this is a shallow description of an important way of communicating that has been found in some form or another dating back to as early as 3 B.C.

The term “meme” was coined in 1976 by the British Evolutionary Biologist, Richard Dawkins, who defined it as a way to explain the spread of ideas and cultural phenomena. Richard believed that a meme was basically an idea, behavior, or style that spreads by means of imitation from person to person within a culture often carrying symbolic meaning and representing a particular event or topic.

“What does that even mean?”

Well… it means that memes are a worldwide cultural phenomenon because they carry cultural ideas that can be transmitted from one mind to another. Memes are viral – they increase the sense of belonging and establish community.

How do memes affect culture?

Memes have so much power nowadays that when a fad or a trend goes viral, people from around the globe will know about it. Limits do not exist. People are connecting now more than ever through humor and memes. All the lockdowns have made real life contact limited and memes have become a way to cope, to share your thoughts, and to find an answer from other people who are probably feeling the same.

When people get behind a meme, they have something in common. They share ideas. They are united by what the meme represents. Although it’s mostly used for comedic purposes, memes have gained popularity and relevance in many other contexts. Political memes have become an important asset in campaigns and movements all around the world. Memes are uniting people behind the same purpose and creating movements which transitions into the topic of the moment: MemeCoins.

“Why? What’s the point?” These are questions that most people ask themselves when speaking about meme coins. While there are multiple valid answers, how about “why not?”

We’ve seen the power that memes have in people and how it unites them. We’ve also seen the surge of crypto and how this market is steadily becoming a new standard in the global economy. The problem is that crypto is intimidating and at times the communities can be uninviting or uninteresting. Why not mix the best of both worlds and create a decentralized community that will make the world a better place?

Exactly! No way to tear that argument down, right? Meme coins are showing the world that when people unite themselves behind a cause they believe in, there’s no stopping them. We’ve made incredible connections with outstanding individuals in this $PUSSY journey and we are very excited to keep meeting like-minded people who are sure to be a great fit for our community. And all of this, thanks to…well…MEMES!
